Chester J. Grenda Jr.

Chester J. Grenda Jr., 77, of Riverside, died Sept. 11, 2014.

Professor Grenda was a retired teacher of art history and architecture for the City Colleges of Chicago. He was a retired captain of the Riverside Police Auxiliary, former president and mem

ber of the Riverside Public Library Board of Trustees, a member of the Riverside Masonic Lodge, an Explorer Scout leader, scholar, avid book collector and artist.

He was known as an impassioned historian who dedicated countless hours to his community.

Mr. Grenda was the husband of the late Frances M. Grenda; the father of Melissa (Mark) Dargis, Chester (Laura) Grenda III, Katherine (Bryan) Riordan and Michael (Amber) Grenda; the grandfather of Madeleine, Camden, Kyle, Sescha, Gavin, Anya, Owen, Baby Riordan and Moira; the brother of James (Beverly) Grenda; and the uncle of many.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 18 from 3 to 9 p.m., with a Rosary at 4 p.m., Masonic services at 6:45 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and on Friday, Sept. 19 from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at Ivins/Moravecek Funeral Home, 80 E. Burlington St., Riverside.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Riverside, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.
