Mr. Bolda served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a sales manager for Vicrtex Wallcoverings prior to retirement. He was also involved locally as a devoted member of St. Mary Church, as a member of the Riverside Township Lions Club and as a former president of the Riverside Swim Club.

But Mr. Bolda also will always have the distinction of being the last village clerk elected in Riverside.

He was appointed to the position in 2001, after John Coughlin resigned just weeks after that year’s election. Mr. Bolda ran for the position in 2003 and won, serving out the remaining two-year term.

But Mr. Bolda made it clear he wasn’t interested in running for clerk again in 2005, and Riverside — which had eight different people serve in the position in the 10-year period between 1991 and 2001.

In November 2004, voters approved a referendum calling for Riverside’s clerk to be appointed.

Mr. Bolda was the husband of Meredythe Bolda (nee Wagner); the father of Janell (Paul) DiVittorio, Ronald (Deborah) Bolda, Paul (Magdalena) Bolda, Matthew (Cesiah) Bolda, Daniel (Jennifer) Bolda, Kenneth (Emily) Bolda and the late Christopher P. Bolda; the grandfather of Meredythe DiVittorio, Morgan DiVittorio, Nathan Bolda, Claire Bolda, Ellie Bolda, Sophia Bolda, Lincoln and Trevor Bolda; and the brother of Rita Hofer.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 29 at St. Mary Church in Riverside.
