The Rev. Thomas Jeremias Kaveney, 93, pastor emeritus at Mater Christi Church in North Riverside and most recently a resident at St. Odilo Parish in Berwyn, died Oct. 29, 2014 at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn.

Father Kaveney was born in Chicago on Sept. 7, 1921 and attended Visitation School in the city’s South Side. He graduated from Quigley Preparatory Seminary  and received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. He was ordained into the priesthood on May 3, 1947.

His first assignment was at Christ the King Parish, where he served as associate pastor for nine years. In 1956, he moved to Maternity BVM Parish, where he served in the same capacity until 1962.

After several more assignments in Tinley Park, Oak Lawn and Chicago, Father Kaveney was named pastor of Mater Christi Church in North Riverside in 1981. He served as pastor for 10 years, retiring in 1991 at pastor emeritus.

Father Kaveney is survived by his sister, Eileen Reilly.

A funeral Mass was celebrated May 3 at St. Odilo Church. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip.
