Received the Oct. 22 issue of the Landmark and was pleasantly surprised to see retired Major Gen. John Scully’s letter (“Be sure to visit Riverside’s war memorial”) mention my name, referring to a letter I wrote on Oct. 8 regarding the Riverside war memorial while attending the Riverside Garage’s end-of-year car show.

I realize it’s a “natural” garden and looks as such. My concern was that one cannot read the memorial stones due to the overgrowth around them. The Blue Star memorial is almost totally covered by the overgrowth.

I feel the names of these fallen heroes should be proudly visible for all to see. I am ashamed to admit that with family roots dating back to the late 1920s in this village that I have not taken full advantage of all Riverside has to offer.

Gen. Scully, I salute you and thank you for your service to our country and am honored to have you as a resident of our village.
