Led by senior Lacey Smith, the Riverside-Brookfield High School gymnastics team finished second with a score 122.55, trailing only DeKalb Co-op (137.10), at the Geneseo Invite on Jan. 3.

Smith placed third in the all-around competition with a score of 33.55. She also earned the following marks: vault (8.45), uneven bars (8.20), balance beam (8.50) and floor exercise (8.40).

Sophomore Campbell Hayes (29.40) and freshman Katie Polanski (28.90) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the all-around. Sophia Spirios was ninth with an all-around score of 28.50.

In the junior varsity competition, RBHS won the team title with a score of 69.90, followed by Geneseo (62.05) and DeKalb Co-op (60.10).

Freshman Amelia Huebner took third in the all-around (27.60) while sophomore Emily Temmer (17.80) earned fifth in the all-around of the JV individual standings.

Natalie Cole and Hailey Paisker also contributed to the Bulldogs’ first-place showing.

RBHS wrestling

RBHS picked up a pair of wins last week, defeating Back of the Yards College Prep 76-6 and host Solorio Academy 54-19 in a triangular. The Bulldogs (12-4, 2-0 Metro Suburban Conference) host conference rival Fenton on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 5:30 p.m.

RBHS boys swimming

The Bulldogs won their first title this season at the Lincoln-Way Central Relays in late December. Kevin Garza, who recently broke the RBHS pool record in the 100-yard butterfly, powered the team’s strong showing at Lincoln-Way Central.

The RB Invite is Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m.

LTHS boys basketball

Harrison Niego scored a team-high 20 points in the Lions’ 66-57 loss against rival Hinsdale Central in the team’s Battle of 55th Street. The annual showdown also served as an important game within the West Suburban Conference Silver Division race as Hinsdale Central remained unbeaten at 4-0 while LTHS fell to 3-1. Overall, the Lions are 14 and Hinsdale Central owns a 12-2 record.

LTHS senior guard Jaquan Phipps contributed eight points and 16 rebounds. 6-8 sophomore center Connor Niego, Harrison’s younger brother, chipped in eight points.

Center Matt Rafferty led the host Red Devils with 27 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Bradshaw added 12 points for the defending conference champs.

Nazareth boys basketball

Christian Davis had 19 points in a 58-48 win against Hubbard. Kaleb Thornton (15 points) and Grant Pomatto (14 points) also reached double figures for the Roadrunners (3-10).

LTHS girls basketball

Victoria Swift paced the Lions with 14 points and Erin Corrigan chipped in 10 points in a 53-25 victory against Hinsdale Central.  LTHS also picked up a 45-33 win over Proviso West to remain unbeaten at 7-0 in the West Suburban Conference Silver Division.

Trinity basketball

Freshman Alisa Fallon recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Blazers cruised past Downers Grove North 61-33 in non-conference action. The Blazers improved to 14-1, their lone loss to Benet in the final of the Montini Christmas Tournament.
