Eugene A. Janicke, 91, a longtime resident of Brookfield, died Jan. 14, 2015 at Emeritus of Burr Ridge.

Mr. Janicke served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then worked for 40 years for the Western Electric Company as an engineer and supervisor, retiring in 1982.

A resident of Brookfield from 1947 until 2012, he was also active in the local political scene as a member of the Peoples Economy Party (PEP) and as a former member of the Brookfield Zoning Board of Appeals. 

Mr. Janicke was also a member of the Brookfield-LaGrange Park Lions Club and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America-Hawthorne Chapter 45. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Janicke (nee Durham). Mr. Janicke is survived by his children, Jeff (Kathryn O’Neil) Janicke, Judith (Lawrence) Pevitts, Janice (Roger) Rylander, Joyce (Joseph) DeCraene and Jean (Tim) Curtin; his brother, Robert S. Janicki; and his sister, Delores Norris.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 19 at St. Barbara Church in Brookfield, followed by interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
