COURTESY OF LYONS TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL
Earlier this week, the Lyons Township High School Senior Madrigal Choir performed at a Naturalization Ceremony during which 140 new citizens were sworn in.
The choir, under the direction of LT music teacher Connie Lyda, sang three patriotic songs at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse in the courtroom of Federal Magistrate Judge, LTHS Hall of Fame inductee and 1976 LT graduate Susan Cox. The candidates, originally from 38 different countries, repeated the citizenship oath after Judge Cox. She pronounced them citizens and gave an inspirational call to attendees on the responsibilities of being U.S. citizens.
Students performed before and after conferring citizenship.
According to Lyda, “The event was a huge success and our students were honored to be a part of such a momentous occasion.” Judge Cox said she plans to invite the Senior Madrigals to the ceremony each year.
