William L. Johnson, 82, a resident of Countryside and a former longtime resident of Brookfield, died Feb. 15, 2015 at his home.
Mr. Johnson served in the Illinois Air National Guard in the 1950s and 1960s and lived in Brookfield from 1958 until 1987. He was a police officer for the village of Brookfield for 30 years, retiring in 1997 as a sergeant.
He was instrumental in forming the West Suburban Major Case Assistance Team, a multi-jurisdictional agency of suburban departments who share resources to help solve serious crimes. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 38 and the Illinois Police Association.
In addition, Mr. Johnson enjoyed gardening, cooking and model railroading.
Mr. Johnson was the husband of the late Jo Anne Johnson (nee Cosgren), who died Oct. 29, 1998; the father of Susan Johnson, Cynthia (Andy) Krajewski and Donald Johnson; the grandfather of Tyler, Daniel, James and Ryan Krajewski; and the brother of Lenore Serwat, the late Robert Johnson and the late Walter Johnson.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Feb. 22 from 1 p.m. until a 3 p.m. memorial service at Johnson Funeral Home, 3847 Prairie Ave. in Brookfield. Committal is private.
