The Oak Park and River Forest High School boys track and field team consolidated its impressive win over Lake Park by topping St. Ignatius and Fenwick on Saturday. The host Huskies won 14 of 17 events en route to a high score of 111 points, followed by St. Ignatius (28) and Fenwick (3).

Kenneth Brown won three field events to trigger the Huskies’ dominant showing. He won the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 4 inches, the long jump (21-6) and triple jump (40-7½). Kabi Mwakyoma also won multiple events for the Huskies by claiming the high hurdles with a time of 7.79 seconds and the low hurdles with a time of 7.44.

In the 800-meter run, Chance Bayles earned first place with a time of 2 minutes, 13.09 seconds. Sean Lonergan finished the 600-meter run in 1:30.00 for first place. Other OPRF winners included: Alex Fletcher (200-meter/24.84), Luke Nelson (pole vault/13-0), Graham Failor (shot put/46-11.5).

The Huskies swept the relays with top finishes in the 3,200-meter relay (8:28.18), 1,600-meter relay (3:40.68) and 640-meter relay (1:19.22).

“As a coaching staff, we are really pleased with the workman-like attitude of this team,” OPRF head coach Tim Hasso said. “Right now, we are more focused on each individual improving from week to week,  rather than where we are in team scores. What you are seeing in terms of results, is quality depth in all phases of the team (sprints, hurdles, distance, field events). That can be overwhelming for our opponents in some of these smaller indoor duals and quads.”

OPRF won the frosh/soph meet as well with a score of 96.5, followed by Fenwick (20.5) and St. Ignatius (15).

The Huskies will compete in the Proviso West Invitational on Saturday (9 a.m.). The invite features several top teams like Lyons Township, Lake Park, Neuqua Valley, York, Barrington and Cahokia in the 25-team field.
