Robert E. Luebben, 88, a longtime resident of Brookfield, died March 3, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Luebben grew up in Neenah, Wisconsin, and served as an infantryman in the 29th Infantry Division during the final months of World War II, helping defeat Nazi Germany. Following the war he received his degree from Augustana College and a master’s degree in education from the University of Iowa.

In 1958, he moved to Brookfield’s Hollywood section when he landed a job as a math teacher at Riverside-Brookfield High School. He taught math and coached golf at the school until 1977, when he retired and took up driving a limousine.

He was known as a colorful character in the neighborhood, who played golf any day he was able to. He was playing golf daily well in 2014, when he also participated in an Honor Flight for World War II veterans to Washington, D.C.

Mr. Luebben was preceded in death by his wife, Linnea (nee Anderson), and by his sons, Frederic and Carl Luebben.
