District 96 is fortunate to have great candidates for the board of education elections on April 7. Thank you to all the candidates for stepping up and committing to make D96 a solid educational foundation for current and future student.

I want to give special recognition to Juliet Boyd. Juliet has personal and professional qualifications that make her a remarkable member of the school board team. Juliet is a respected attorney with years of experience looking at the nuts and bolts of contracts and legal documents. Juliet is a very dedicated and level-headed individual who will roll up her sleeves and get to work.

We have known each other for more than 10 years and have watched each other’s families grow and the needs of each family change. Juliet experiences daily what working parents go through to coordinate a work and school schedule.

Juliet is aware of the benefits of early childhood education with programs such as Early Learner Preschool (located at Hollywood School) and a full-day kindergarten. Juliet understands that the D96 community is to be cherished for the variety of interests, talents, and backgrounds of all the residents. Juliet did not grow up in this community (she was born and raised in South Africa), but she has Riverside in her heart. Juliet is a passionate leader who truly brings out the best in everyone she encounters.

The board has a big job ahead of them: hire a new superintendent, negotiate a teachers’ contract, and continue to implement goals of higher educational excellence. It is vital that Juliet’s unique skills as an attorney are utilized to process and interpret data and to guide the board through this phase of transition.

I highly recommend Juliet Boyd to the four-year term on the D96 school board and encourage others to vote for her.
