If you can’t find something to do this weekend in Riverside and Brookfield, you’re not looking hard enough.
Every year in the middle of May, there’s a weekend where you can’t go out the door without bumping into something fun in the village.
On May 16 and 17, you can head to downtown Riverside for its annual Riverside Arts Weekend — RAW — which features not only the work of more than 70 artists, but live music, a remarkable fashion show and, of course, all of those coyotes (which you can bid for online).
May 16 is also the date that Wright Plus rolls through town, bringing hundreds of people eager to see Frank Lloyd Wright’s late Prairie-style masterpiece the Coonley House. And on Sunday, many of those folks may make a return visit (feel free to join them) for a guided tour of the village, which kicks off at the train station at 11 a.m.
After hitting RAW on May 16, you can wind down at the Brookfield Chamber’s annual Street Dance on Broadway Avenue, just west of Eight Corners, from 5 to 11 p.m.
On May 17 you can either head over to RAW again or get your rock on at the Brookfield Battle of the Bands from noon to 6 p.m. at the Kiwanis Park band shell.
There aren’t many weekends in the villages where there’s so much to do. Take advantage while you can.
