Acknowledging the many property thefts are “crimes of opportunity,” Riverside police announced patrol officers would be leaving special yellow tags reminding residents to take caution. A press release from Chief Thomas Weitzel said patrol officers would be notifying residents of bicycles left out, valuables unsecured or vehicles with valuables in plain sight. Residents may find these new tags with the words “Advisory Message” hanging on a door or under a windshield wiper, the press release said. The tags may sometimes be used in specific areas to notify residents that a crime spree is occurring in their neighborhood.
