Kenneth Lincoln Kaval, 73, of Riverside, died on Aug. 18, 2015.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1942 and was a 1960 graduate of Fenwick High School in Oak Park and a graduate of Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. Mr. Kaval earned a master’s degree at Chicago State University, and did graduate work at The Ohio State University.
He spent 25 years as a senior division analyst for the Cook County Assessor’s Office and earned the titles of CAE and CIAO. Mr. Kaval was a board member at St. Mary’s School, chairman of the Riverside Planning Commission and chief for Indian Guides and Princesses. He was also a coach and manager for Riverside Little League, and founder of the Riverside Recreation Department Soccer League.
Mr. Kaval was a board member of the Frederick Law Olmsted Society, former president of Riverside Dancing Club, a member of the Riverside Kiwanis and a member of both the Riverside and North Riverside Jaycees.
He was a proud Lithuanian, gourmet cook, expert gardener, excellent friend and storyteller.
Mr. Kaval is survived by his wife, Irene; his children, Michael (Amy) and Elizabeth; his grandchild, Irene Alexandra; and his cousins, Patrice (Earl) Yanas Pykett, Myron (Audrey) Shain and Janet Kaval.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elgrid and Helen Kaval; and his goddaughter, Alexandra Marie Traub.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Aug. 22 at St. Mary Church in Riverside, with interment at the Lithuanian National Cemetery.
