The North Riverside Historical Society is seeking input of current and former residents as a special committee assembles a pictorial history of restaurants in the village from the 1930s to the present.

Committee members are seeking photographs or memorabilia such as menus, matchbooks or cocktail napkins from gone but not forgotten eating and drinking establishments from the 1930s to the 1990s. Those range from the well-known such as Sorini’s Restaurant, Bob’s Office and Jeannie’s Lounge to those not as familiar.

Donations are requested but committee members are willing to make copies and return originals if preferred.

Committee members also are collecting names and contact information of those with first-hand knowledge of restaurants that are no longer in business, whether they are former customers, employees or owners or their family members to be interviewed for the narrative portion of the project.

Those with pictures and those willing to share memories are asked to contact the historical society via email at or by telephone at 630-258-7099.

Committee members plan to present a slide show of their findings early in 2016.
