Riverside Police Department was awarded funding from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program from the United States Department of Justice.

The $19,000 technical assistance grant will be released through the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. RPD received the full award and no matching funds are required from the village. This was a competitive grant with over 45 applications being considered in Cook County alone.

Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel stated, “This equipment grant award will allow both patrol and investigations to utilize mobile data tablets for street patrol.”

The grant will allow, amongst other things, the police department to purchase six specially outfitted mobile data tablets for police patrol, investigations and WEDGE gang and drug task force operations.

Submitted by the Riverside Police Department.
