The area in and around Brookfield’s Village Hall was a hub of activity on Saturday, Sept. 26. In addition to the annual Brookfield Arts Festival in Kiwanis Park and the Brookfield Farmers Market in the parking lot of the village hall, scores of people came out to watch the annual Duck Race, sponsored by Beautify Brookfield, the nonprofit fundraising arm of the Brookfield Beautification Commission.

The nonprofit sold nearly 800 of the small rubber ducks at $5 a pop, raising about $3,000 which will be used to fund public art initiatives of the Brookfield Beautification Commission. The ducks were launched from an area near the Washington Avenue bridge and floated downstream toward the canoe launch, where the winners were plucked from the water.
