Edward Volenec, 93, of Brookfield, died on Sept. 8, 2015 at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital.
He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II, including at the Battle of Iwo Jima and retired as the treasurer for the Monon Railroad in 1978.
Mr. Volenec was a member of CSA Lodge 117 and enjoyed bowling, dancing, history books, crosswords, and animals.
He is survived by his nieces, Carole Volenec and Karen Kowalewski, and his nephew, Joseph Volenec. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anthonie Volenec, and his brothers, Joseph (the late Mildred), George (the late Dolores), and Charles (Doris) Volenec.
A committal service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood is planned for 11 a.m. on Oct. 19.
