Geraldine B. Hletko, 81, of Brookfield, died on Oct. 6, 2015. Born on Feb. 25, 1934, she was a teacher in the Chicago Public Schools for 30 years and was an active member of St. Barbara Parish in Brookfield, where she served as a Eucharistic minister.
Ms. Hletko was devoted to community service and volunteered with many organizations, including the Senior Center of LaGrange, Intercare Faith Givers, Misericordia Candy Days, the Prairie Club of Indiana and St. Barbara Food Pantry.
She was a board member of the First Slovak Catholic Ladies Association and a member of the Friends of the Brookfield Public Library. She loved to travel and visited many destinations around the world.
For many years, she was the smiling face at her family’s Everett Resort in Eagle River, Wisconsin.
Ms. Hletko is survived by her nieces and nephews, Mary Jo, Joseph (Mary), Phyllis, Anne (David Lawton), Bernard (Julie) and John (Laura) and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Michelle, Joseph, Daniel, Cooper, Ethan, Grace and Marcus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Teckla, and her brothers, Victor and Bernard.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 16 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St. in Countryside. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Barbara Church, 4008 Prairie Ave. in Brookfield on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.
