Monsters on Mainstreet, the annual trick-or-treating event for kids sponsored by the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce and the Brookfield Historical Society, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The 17th annual event includes trick-or-treating in Brookfield’s Grand Boulevard and Broadway Avenue business districts from noon to 3 p.m. Participating businesses will have special Halloween pumpkin signs in their windows, designating them as Monsters on Mainstreet locations where children are welcome to trick-or-treat.

Beginning at 2:30 p.m., the first 500 costumed trick-or-treaters to visit the Brookfield Historical Society’s Grossdale Station, 8820½ Brookfield Ave., will receive free taffy apples and pumpkins.

The Grossdale Station will also be the location for the event’s annual costume contest, which has categories for scariest, funniest, and most creative in four different age groups. Adults are welcome to participate. The contest will begin at about 3 p.m.

Monsters on Mainstreet also marks the kickoff of the St. Barbara’s Parish annual food drive to support their food pantry. Participants are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to place in the collection box at the Grossdale Station.
