Brookfield cancer survivor Judy Rospenda (back row, far right) and other Illinois cancer advocates met with Sen. Mark Kirk’s (R-Illinois) office in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Rospenda joined more than 750 cancer patients, survivors and volunteers from all 50 states and nearly every congressional district in Washington, D.C., as part of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s annual Leadership Summit and Lobby Day. Participants asked their members of Congress to support an increase in federal funding for cancer research, co-sponsor a bill that supports patients’ quality of life and support legislation that would close a loophole in colorectal cancer screenings for Medicare patients.
