While driving through Brookfield, I happened to see several people with their heads bowed. I realized they were having a Veterans Day service. I was really moved by this.
I later spoke with Julius Torrentt, post commander of the VFW along with Sherry Lada. They both had attended the Veterans Day service.
They told me that the VFW is all about the veterans loving and caring for one another. In fact, Julius said, “We are family.” Sherry said, “We laugh, cry, listen, talk and help each other. When a member needs a ride to the veterans hospital, another member will take them to their appointment.”
The VFW in Brookfield is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for Navy recruits that are in boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Base. Sherry said, “This is a heart-warming day.”
