We’re through talking turkey and now we can talk about the Christmas holidays. If you were one of those who bravely went out to shop on Black Friday, good for you. I preferred to stay home, think about it and have a turkey sandwich, but now I am starting to get into the mood.

One way for all to get in the spirit is to attend your town’s holiday gathering. Riverside will have its annual Holiday Stroll on Friday, Dec. 4 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. in downtown Riverside.

This is the village’s 41st Annual Stroll, and half of those years have been coordinated by Brian Brennan of the Riverside Chamber of Commerce. Brennan begins his task early in the year, but having done it for so many years it has become routine with a few minor changes, a few glitches and a lot of legwork.

He also says this will be his last year to chair the event and that it is time for someone else to step up, so if there are any elves out there who would like to help the Chamber of Commerce let them know. While he won’t be the one “in charge” next year, we hope we will see Brennan strolling down Burlington Street enjoying himself like the rest of the merrymakers.

This year, be sure to be on hand for the lighting of the Christmas tree in Centennial Park at 5:45 p.m. before you take in all the other events and do some shopping. Aunt Diana’s has their large chocolate Santa in the window, and yes, it is solid chocolate; smaller versions are available in the store. A stop at Salon Elia will let you find out what new is happening at the shop — story to come, that’s my tease for this week.

Then get some rest, because on Saturday, Dec. 5 you can join Brookfield for their Holiday Walk from 3 to 7 p.m. Their Christmas tree at Veteran’s Memorial Circle will be lit at 5:30 p.m. Santa will make an appearance there also, busy man. Activities will happen at the village hall and you can shop the businesses, see the petting zoo and a reindeer display. Fun for all.

Also a Happy Hanukkah to all our Jewish friends which begins at sundown Dec. 6.

Belated 90th birthday greetings to Pat Zdarsky of North Riverside, a woman who is an inspiration to all. What’s your secret Pat? You look great!
