Virginia Catherine Earl (nee Coughlin), 94, formerly of Riverside, died peacefully on Dec. 5, 2015 surrounded by family at Silverado Senior Living in Naperville.
She was born in 1921 to the late Margaret and Thomas Coughlin of Madison, Wisconsin, the third youngest of eight Coughlin daughters.
Ms. Earl, with her Irish-Catholic heritage, raised five children, sharing her wisdom and strength of character with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the end.
She had the patience, ability, and compassion to be an exceptional listener, a rare gift which blessed all who knew her. Riverside was the “crossroads” for family and friends traveling across the country and became the stop-over home for reunions, late night talks and plenty of fun.
Ms. Earl was a member of St. Mary Church in Riverside for more than 54 years. She was a volunteer for many community organizations, Riverside Recreation Department events and the Little League program.
Her devotion and love of her late husband, Bill, was special, steadfast and loyal, spanning over 57 years.
Ms. Earl is survived by four children, Sandra (Lynn) Lowder, William F. (Anita) Earl Jr., Susan (Ted) Earl-Sevigny and Robert (Mary) Earl. She was the grandmother of Kathleen Lowder, Lisa Lowder, Daniel (Missy) Lowder, Matthew Gullo, Robert Gullo, Robert Earl, Katherine Earl, Elizabeth Earl and Abigail Earl; the great-grandmother of Justice Lowder-Cole and Emmett Lowder; the sister of Nancy Coughlin Johnson; and the aunt of many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Earl Sr., and her daughter, Christine M. Earl. Sincere gratitude is expressed to the loving Silverado Staff and caretakers and the Harbor Light Hospice team.
Interment and celebration of Virginia’s life will be held in the spring.
Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Naperville, handled arrangements.
