The DuPage County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman killed in a vehicle crash in Oak Brook on Tuesday morning as 86-year-old Brookfield resident Eleanor Spevak.

Oak Brook police have reported that Spevak’s red Ford Escort was disabled in the right lane of eastbound 31st Street near the I-294 interchange at about 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 8.

A vehicle seeking to avoid the Ford swerved around it at the last minute, according to police, and a GMC Sierra traveling immediately behind that vehicle slammed into the rear of the Ford Escort.

Emergency personnel found Spevak unresponsive at the scene and transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 27-year-old Villa Park man, was not seriously injured but was taken to a hospital for observation.

Oak Brook police say the department is being assisted by the Felony Investigative Assistance Team (FIAT), which is conducting a crash reconstruction and investigation.
