Gertrude Dohnal (nee Zakavec), 101, of Brookfield, died on Jan. 2, 2016.
Born on Jan. 1, 1915, she spent her life making a home for her family and was a longtime member of the C.S.A. (Czechoslovak Society of America.)
Ms. Dohnal is survived by her children, Trudy (the late Donald) Schmitt and John (June Ellen) Dohnal Jr.; her grandchildren, Warren (Kathy) Schmitt, Wayne Schmitt, Steven (Linda) Schmitt and Amanda Dohnal; her great-grandchildren, Sarah Schmitt, Grace Schmitt, Rachel Schmitt, Carter Schmitt and Colin Schmitt; and her sister, Lorraine Safranek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Dohnal Sr., and her siblings, Frank Zakavec, Mary Zakavec and Bill Zakavec. Visitation is on Wednesday, Jan. 6 from noon until the time of a 1 p.m. service at Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St. in Brookfield, followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park.
