One of the many nice things about living around here is the availability of things to do to support different organizations or causes. Get your calendar out and you will see what I mean.
On Saturday, March 5, you can get up early and go over to Riverside-Brookfield High School and help support the Young Life program as they hold a 3-on-3 basketball tournament to raise funds to send Young Life members to camps this summer. The games start at 8 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m. Call 708-638-5577 for more information.
Go home take a rest before going over to St. Mary’s Parish Center for the all-you-can-eat pasta dinner sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, which starts at 3:30 p.m. and will continue until 8 p.m.
It is authentic Italian food and I can vouch for that, thanks to Capri restaurant, Turano Bakery, Jimmy’s Place and Mother’s Day. Along with the food, there will be a raffle, auction and music.
This family event is reasonably priced with tickets at $7 in advance $9 at the door, children under 5 are free. The event even has a theme this year, “Knight 2016, Music, Pasta and Wine” — now that about covers it.
The Knights of Columbus have become very active at St. Mary Parish and are looking for more members, so gentlemen bring the family to dinner on Saturday and learn more about the organization.
Let’s skip to Saturday, March 12 and go for breakfast at Christ Presbyterian Church in North Riverside. Tickets for the church’s pancake breakfast are $5 each and will be available at the door. Early risers can eat at 8:30 a.m., but if you sleep in for a while pancakes will be served until 11:30 a.m. The Church is located at 2350 8th Ave. in North Riverside.
That same evening, you can join the Riverside Arts Center with some good old-fashioned bowling fun at Forest Lanes at 7700 W. 47th Street in Lyons. Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for children. The ticket includes bowling, shoe rental, pizza and dessert. A cash bar will be available. Raffles and prizes will be part of the evening fun for those supporting this fundraiser. For information call 708-442-6400.
There you have it, filling out your social calendar. Which only proves you don’t have to go far to lend support locally and have a fun time with family and friends.
