Infrastructure work related to the East Burlington Street resurfacing project will cause the street to be closed to through traffic between Delaplaine and Cowley roads during daytime hours on Friday, March 18 and from Monday, March 21 to Friday, March 25.

On those days, that portion of East Burlington Street will be closed to traffic between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. in order for crews to make repairs to sewer drainage structures in preparation for resurfacing the entire length of the roadway from Longcommon Road to Harlem Avenue later this summer.

According to Sonya Abt, the village of Riverside’s community development director, between Delaplaine and Cowley the street is too narrow for crews to do the work and still accommodate through traffic.

“It was causing problems for staging and being able to do work in that area,” Abt said.

Motorists are being asked to use East Quincy Street on their way in and out of the downtown area while work is completed. Detour signs will be posted.

However, said Abt, residents who live along that stretch of East Burlington Street will still have vehicle access in and out of the neighborhood. Work will not be done over the weekend, and the road will be open to traffic on those days.

The street is wide enough in the central business district and east of Delaplaine Road for crews to repair drainage structures and accommodate traffic, so traffic in those areas will not be affected.
