Teams from Congress Park School in Brookfield and Cossitt School in LaGrange were named co-champions of the District 102 Battle of the Books competition — the first time the top spot was awarded to two teams — in February.

After teams from all four elementary schools in the district battled for three rounds, Congress Park and Cossitt were tied. The two teams then answered 20 more questions correctly, which had never been done before, leading to the shared championship.

Battle of the Books is a book club for fourth-graders and is designed to encourage students to read a variety of fiction and non-fiction books, with an emphasis placed on critical reading skills and team-building.

The Congress Park team included Dylan Dean, Allen Govea, Rachel O’Riley, Kayla Rodriguez and Tony Wings.
