A water main replacement project that began last fall along Ogden Avenue in Lyons, tying up daytime traffic, will restart on April 18, officials in Lyons have announced.

The second phase of the work, part of a $5.5 million water and road improvement campaign, will entail replacing the water main underneath Ogden Avenue from Joliet Avenue east to Center Avenue. The new water main will upgrade what is presently the oldest section of water main in Lyons, according to a press release issued by the village.

According to Ray Hanania, a spokesman for the village of Lyons, the water main project will continue through at least mid-summer and reduce traffic lanes in both directions on Ogden Avenue.

There will be just one lane of traffic going east and one lane going west at all times between Joliet and Center avenues, Hanania said in an email, and no left turns will be allowed from Ogden Avenue onto Joliet Avenue between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Last fall, the village of Lyons replaced the water main beneath Ogden Avenue between Joliet Avenue and Plainfield Road.

Hanania also stated that once Nicor finishes up work it is doing in the construction area in mid-summer, Ogden Avenue between Center Avenue and Plainfield Road will be resurfaced to eliminate the rough, asphalt-patch areas where the new water main was installed.
