John J. Gerberi, 79, of Brookfield, died on April 17, 2016.
Mr. Gerberi was born Jan. 30, 1937 and served in the U.S. Navy. After retiring from a career as a repair technician, Mr. Gerberi was the president of the Adult Volunteer Program at Hinsdale Hospital for many years and worked part-time at Tischler’s Grocery Store as the “Meat Counter Guy.”
He also enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sport events and concerts. He also loved the Chicago Blackhawks.
Mr. Gerberi is survived by his wife, Eleanor P. Gerberi (nee Simko); his children, Laura (Jeff) Pogwizd, Mary Ellen (Steve) Fiflis and Amy Gerberi; his grandchildren, Erica (Josiah) Wiswell, Stephanie Pogwizd, John Fiflis, Julia Gerberi and Nicholas Fiflis; his great-grandchildren, Josiah Jr., Jonas, Zoe, Noah and Theodore Wiswell; his siblings, Anne (Ted) Strojny, Mary (the late Bob) Silkowski and Michael Gerberi; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Gerberi.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Louise de Marillac Church in LaGrange Park, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
