Cynthia Grosse

A Lyons woman who ran down and seriously injured an 8-year-old boy riding his bike in front of his Riverside home last year pleaded guilty to felony drunken driving during a hearing Tuesday at the Maybrook courthouse.

Cynthia Grosse, 67, was sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release by Judge Gregory R. Ginex. She was credited for the 270 days already served since she was jailed after her arrest on Sept. 14, 2015.

Grosse was cutting through Riverside on her way home to Lyons to avoid afternoon rush-hour traffic on Harlem Avenue when she drove her car into the 8-year-old victim, who was riding his bike along with his 11-year-old and 6-year-old siblings in and around the driveway of their home in 300 block of Eastgrove Road.

The boy was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later made a full recovery. Grosse, who was arrested at the scene, told police she’d been drinking alcohol throughout the day and was coming home after visiting a friend in Oak Park.

She was charged with aggravated driving under the influence causing great bodily harm, a Class 4 felony that could have landed her in prison for up to three years.
