Grab your bicycle and head to Brookfield on Saturday, May 21 and take part in the village’s inaugural event, featuring a 5K/10K Community Ride, the police department’s annual Bike Rodeo for kids and a police-escorted Kids Ride.
The Bike Rodeo begins at 9 a.m. in the back parking lot of the Brookfield Village Hall, 8820 Brookfield Ave. Free bike helmets or T-shirts will be given to the first 100 kids, and kids can test their skills on a bike safety and ability course, get a free bike inspection, meet McGruff the Crime Dog and get an up-close look at fire department trucks.
The Kids Ride starts from the parking lot at 10:30 a.m. and rolls through Kiwanis Park under police escort.
The main Bike Brookfield rides will start in front of the Grossdale Station 8820½ Brookfield Ave. at 11:30 a.m. and end at the village hall. A “soft closure” of streets will limit car traffic along the route.
Following the rides, the village will host an after party in Kiwanis Park, featuring live music by Gerald McClendon and prize raffles.
Online registration at www.brookfieldil.gov will remain open until the afternoon of May 19. Walk-up registration is available on the day of the event.
