Brookfield Zoo and Mold-A-Rama — the Brookfield-based company responsible for all of those colorful molded plastic souvenir machines located at strategic locations around the zoo — will unveil the company’s newest animal figurine over the Memorial Day weekend.
To mark its 50th anniversary selling the popular souvenirs at the zoo, Mold-A-Rama held an online vote last year and then worked with zoo officials to come up with a suitable animal to mark the occasion.
The winner was the American bison, which will be molded out of brown plastic. The bison will be available from Saturday, May 28 throughout the summer inside a tent called “Memory Lane,” which will be located near the carousel on the north end of the zoo campus.
Mold-A-Rama owner Paul Jones said that special events are planned throughout the summer to celebrate the company’s anniversary at the zoo and its new offering. Details will be rolled out in June, according to Sondra Katzen, media relations manager for the Chicago Zoological Society, which operates Brookfield Zoo.
Mold-A-Rama operates more than a dozen machines at Brookfield, pumping out everything from pink seals to silver eagles to green alligators at $2 a pop.
