Edwin A. Horn Sr., 84, of Lombard and formerly of Brookfield and Lyons, died on June 5, 2016.
He attended Lincoln Elementary School, Lyons Township High School and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Horn went on to work for Bulley & Andrews Construction and Turner Construction as a carpenter and site superintendent, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Carpenters’ Union and the Brookfield VFW Post 2868.
Mr. Horn collected vintage automobiles and enjoyed racing them. He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club, the Chevy Club and the Cadillac-LaSalle Club. He also enjoyed flying small airplanes.
He is survived by his wife, Donna S. DeFries-Horn; his children, Edwin A. (Michelle) Horn Jr., Deborah Ann Horn, and Tricia Louise (William) Nixon; grandchildren, William, Ashley, Allison, and Christopher Nixon and Justin, Jeffrey, and Jessica Jarosz; and his great-grandchildren, Tabitha Nixon and Nathan Van deVeer.
Visitation is on Wednesday, June 8 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 3847 Prairie Ave., Brookfield.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on June 9 at St. Barbara Church, 4008 Prairie Ave. in Brookfield, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.
Memorials donations are appreciated to the American Cancer Society or to Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care.
