‘It’s just what you did, it was instilled in me,” according to Jenny White, when referring to her years of service to the community. In recognition of that service, White has been named 2016 Person of the Year by the Riverside Township Lions Club.
White was raised in Riverside and attended the District 96 grade schools and Riverside-Brookfield High School. It was while she was in high school that White began doing her part as a member of the student council and president of Shareclub, an all-girl organization in the school that sponsored, among other things, the turnabout dance.
She continued her education at Knox College, earning a degree in anthropology and sociology before seeking her master’s degree in international management at Thunderbird Graduate School in Arizona.
It was there she met Patrick White, who was to become her husband. The couple settled in Riverside. Patrick attended law school and Jenny set out on her career which is now known as Global Mobility.
Although busy with her career, Jenny found time to give back to her community, first joining the Riverside Junior Women’s Club, where she held every office, including the presidency. She now is recognized as an Honorary Junior.
She also is a member of the American Association of University Women and PEO International, a women’s group devoting much of their efforts to education. A trustee on the board of the Riverside Brookfield High School Educational Foundation, Jenny served as secretary for 12 years. She now returns to help the organization with their annual telethon.
Jenny has been a member of the Riverside Community Caucus, formerly as president and continues to serve in various capacities and as a member of that organization’s board. She is also part of the board of directors for Riverside Arts Weekend, and worked hard again this year to make it a success.
Also the Whites can be seen tripping the light fantastic as members of the Riverside Dance Club. Watch for her in the Riverside July 4 parade.
The Lions Club will honor Jenny White with a dinner on Aug. 31 at the Riverside Golf Club. Information will soon be available as to where to purchases tickets.
Jenny White said she is happy to be part of the community, and we are happy to have her as a big part of the community.
