Victoria M. Michels (nee DiTorrice), 93, of Riverside, died on July 9, 2016.
Ms. Michels was marred to James R. Michels, a Riverside native who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima and was present at the first flag-raising on Mount Suribachi.
After she retired, Ms. Michels volunteered at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, Loyola University Medical Center and MacNeal Memorial Hospital. One of her favorite things to do was to go for a cup of coffee in the morning. She will be dearly missed by all.
Ms. Michels is survived by her children, Donna (the late William) Schelthoff, Mary (Ken Evans) Michels, Sue (Robert Poulsom) Kanz and Betty (Michael) McMahon; her grandchildren, William (Erin) Schelthoff, Cynthia (Mark) Dolle and Heidi (Dan) Murphy; her step-grandchildren, Michael McMahon Jr., Matthew McMahon, Martin McMahon and Mark McMahon; 14 great-grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Michels, and her siblings, Anthony (late Charlene) DeTorrice and Flaminia (late Howard) Palombi.
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, July 18 from 9 a.m. until time of services beginning at 10 a.m. at Ivins/Moravecek Funeral Home, 80 E. Burlington St. in Riverside.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated July 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Hugh Church, 7939 43rd St. in Lyons.
