Joseph F. Calek, 86, formerly of North Riverside and Berwyn, died surrounded by his family on Aug. 23, 2016.
Born on Nov. 23, 1929, Mr. Calek was a Korean War veteran, and he worked as a supervisor at Hotpoint for many years. He was a die-hard Cubs fan who loved sports, reading, family camping trips and fishing.
Mr. Calek is survived by his wife, Mildred Calek (nee Vasko); his children, Anne (David Lockery) Calek, Alice (Richard, retired CFD) Dor, and Joe Calek; his grandchildren, Matt Dory, Dan Dory, Allison Calek and Andrew Calek; his nieces and nephews, Buddy, Debra, Laura, and Joel; and his grand-dogs, Elsa, Auri, and Blitz.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen “Connie” (Elmer) Bilek, Betty (Harold) Yirsa and Arlene “Cookie” (Art) Vrba, and his nephew, Paul.
Services have been held. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park. Memorial donations are appreciated to the American Cancer Society, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Suite 1210, Chicago, 60601 or to a charity of your choice.
