The Cook County Board of Review is now accepting property assessment appeals for the Township of Lyons. Anyone who would like to file an appeal can do so through Nov. 15.
Anyone wishing to file the appeal through the Lyons Township Assessor’s Office must do so by Nov. 14.
Property owners can come to Assessor Barbara Weyrick’s office, which is on the second floor of 6404 Joliet Road in Countryside, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The office will closed on Friday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.
The township assessor’s office can help you complete the Board of Review form and look up comparables.
The township assessor has also scheduled three outreach sessions with the Board of review that all Lyons Township property owners are invited to attend. The sessions will provide an opportunity to talk to personnel from the Board of Review and file an appeal. Bring your tax bill and any other documentation to assist you in filing an appeal.
The seminars are on Monday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Willow Springs Community Center, 8156 S. Archer Ave.; Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Justice Village Hall, 7800 S. Archer Road; and Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Countryside Village Hall, 5550 East Ave.
If you have had an appraisal done in 2013, 2014, 2015 or 2016 and the appraisal is lower than the property tax market value, bring two copies of the appraisal so that they can be attached to your appeal.
If you have recently purchased your home in 2013, 2014, 2015 or 2016 and the purchase price is less than your property tax market value, bring in two copies of your closing or settlement statement.
If you are planning on attending one of the outreach seminars you will also need to bring copies of the appraisal or settlement information.
Any questions can be directed to the township assessor’s office at 708-482-8300, Option 1.
