The Riverside Police Department is in the midst of its annual gift drive for families affected by domestic violence.

The department is accepting new toy donations or gift cards for children and teens at a donation box located in the lobby of the police department 31 Riverside Road through Dec. 19.

Gifts are donated to Sarah’s Inn, which provides comprehensive services for families affected by domestic violence. After accepting the gifts, Sarah’s Inn volunteers will host a one-day event, creating a gift shop where their clients can choose gifts for themselves and their children free of charge.

The shop enables women to make decisions about which gifts their children would enjoy in a safe and supportive environment.

Police cannot distribute used toys and ask that gifts promoting themes of violence or sexism be avoided.
