If you’re headed out for some coffee and a dough nut this morning, you might want to consider heading over to Dunkin’ Donuts at 8360 Cermak Road in North Riverside or Dunkin’ Donuts at 9200 Ogden Ave. in Brookfield.
Police officers from North Riverside and Brookfield will be there to greet you as part of the annual Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois.
It’s the first time North Riverside police are participating in the event, now in its 15th year, and Commander Christian Ehrenberg says they’re hoping to raise $1,000 to benefit the cause through donations and the sales of Torch Run merchandise inside the Cermak Road store.
Ehrenberg said he’ll be up on the rooftop until about 1 p.m. Other police personnel will be inside the store.
Meanwhile, at the Brookfield Dunkin’ Donuts, the village’s police officers are being joined by police from the Brookfield Zoo. They, too, will be collecting money which will net donors T-shirts, hats, pins and stainless steel coffee mugs.
Last year, Brookfield police and the Brookfield Police Citizens Academy Alumni Association collected more than $4,400 for the Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois.
Brookfield police are scheduled to be up on the roof of the Ogden Avenue store until about 2 p.m.
