A 41-year-old Forest Park man faces charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after reportedly becoming angry upon learning that a promotional letter from a North Riverside car dealership was good for $5 and not a new car, as he believed.
The man reportedly grabbed an employee at McCarthy Ford, 2100 Harlem Ave., and then shoved him after being told the promotional letter he received entitled him to $5 and not a new Ford Mustang, which he said he’d already picked out in the dealership’s lot.
When police arrived, the man reportedly disobeyed officers’ commands and then allegedly took a few swings at an officer trying to detain him. A police officer employed a Taser to subdue the man.
The employee declined to pursue battery charges against the man, who was banned from the dealership in addition to being charged with disorderly conduct.
Parolee charged with burglary
A 46-year-old South Holland man on parole from state prison for burglary and possessing a stolen vehicle was charged with one count of burglary for allegedly breaking into a Brookfield liquor store at about 4:30 a.m. on July 30.
Police arrived at Brook Food and Liquor, 9016 47th St., to find the front glass door broken and a large amount of blood near the entrance. Officers notified area hospitals to report any patients with severe lacerations, and at about 5 a.m. LaGrange Hospital called to report that a man with serious lacerations to his wrist and arm had come into the emergency room.
The patient, identified as Delon Brandon, had come to the ER in the company of four others, who left before police arrived. Following surgery, police were able to interview Brandon, who was charged with one count of burglary.
At the time of his arrest, Brandon was on parole after serving six years of a 12-year sentence for burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Man arrested after car break-in
Ricardo Lopez, 34, of North Riverside was charged with unlawful use of a credit card shortly after the credit card, along with cash and a handgun were stolen from a vehicle parked in the lot at Charter Fitness, 1770 Harlem Ave., on July 25.
The victim, a 24-year-old Berwyn man called police at about 8:20 p.m. after finding that the driver’s side door lock had been punched out. While speaking with police, the victim was notified that a stolen credit card had been used at Gamestop at North Riverside Park Mall.
Police took Lopez into custody outside of Foot Locker, where he reportedly attempted to use the credit card again.
Riverside police reported three vehicle break-ins during the overnight hours of July 25-26, two of which were caught on surveillance cameras.
One of the incidents took place in the first block of Northgate Road, where a security camera caught two people approach an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway. Once entered and reportedly stole loose change from the center and rifled through the glove box. The offenders left after about a minute and a half, heading away toward Northwood Road.
Another incident caught on camera was in the 300 block of East Quincy Street. Three people exited a small SUV and approached a vehicle parked in a driveway. Two of the offenders entered the victim’s vehicle while the third stayed outside as a lookout.
Nothing of value was taken from the vehicle.
The third incident occurred on Maplewood Road. The victim was awakened by her dogs barking. She went outside to check the vehicles, one of which was unlocked, parked in the driveway and observed the glove box open inside the unlocked vehicle. Nothing of value was reported missing.
Stolen vehicle recovered in Hammond
A vehicle stolen from a North Riverside driveway overnight on July 27-28 was recovered on July 29 in Hammond, Indiana, police have reported.
A resident of the 8000 block of Country Club Lane called police on the morning of July 28 to report that his car had been stolen. The victim told police the key fob needed to start the car was in the center console.
On July 29 at about 6:25 p.m. North Riverside police received word that the vehicle had been recovered by Hammond police following a brief chase that ended when the male driver exited the car and fled police, leaving a female passenger and the car behind.
Police say the driver of the stolen vehicle is wanted on a Cook County warrant for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside, North Riverside and Brookfield police departments, July 24-30, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
