Mae Doubek (nee Hosticka), 100, of Lombard, died peacefully at Beacon Hill Senior Living on Aug. 22, 2017 after a full and healthy life. Born on March 12, 1917, she grew up in Chicago, Lyons and Brookfield and first learned to speak English in kindergarten. She attended Morton High School and worked for some years at Sears, Roebuck and Co.
Mae and John were married in 1939 and lived in Berwyn until moving to Riverside in 1953. She made a home for her family while John built the Doubek Cookie Company. In Riverside, she volunteered for the Infant Welfare Society and her sons’ schools, and the couple took up golfing and traveling. She remained proud of her Czech heritage and her proficiency in the language was lauded by her relatives in Czechoslovakia. The family moved to Oak Brook in 1972 where they continued their active lives.
She was the revered matriarch of an extended family with Czech roots and a friend to many. She will be remembered for her smile, sociability, and sense of humor, as well as her kindness and sense of fairness.
