A shelter-in-place order issued at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8 at Riverside-Brookfield High School and Hollywood Elementary School has been lifted, according to Brookfield Deputy Police Chief Edward Petrak.
Police called the schools in response to a call from the Brookfield Zoo about an employee who had been terminated earlier that morning. The employee reportedly threatened to get a gun and shoot himself, according to Petrak, prompting concern that he might return to the area. He left the zoo through the South Gate, which exits onto Golf Road, which runs through the RBHS campus.
Petrak said the shelter-in-place request was taken as a precaution while police tried to locate the employee, and that neither school had been threatened either directly or indirectly.
Police found the man, Brookfield resident, at about 12:15 p.m., unharmed.
“He’s getting help,” Petrak said.
The shelter-in-place orders were lifted at about 12:20 p.m., Petrak said.
