Police in North Riverside and Riverside have partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation to crack down on distracted driving through increased patrols and enforcement zones throughout the rest of April, which is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

Police will be specifically looking to ticket motorists who are texting or holding their phones while driving, which is against Illinois law. The additional patrols during the “Drop It and Drive” campaign in April are funded via grants from IDOT, through money it receives from the Federal Highway Administration.
