Dennis Wernsing, 83, of LaGrange Park, died on May 19, 2018.
Born on Feb. 19, 1935, he served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and later worked as a custodial engineer at a school.
Mr. Wernsing was the husband of Barbara C. Wernsing (nee Erickson); the father of Kristine (Michael) Ryan, Dale R. (Mary) Wernsing and Tara Wernsing; the stepfather of Carlina (Tim) Oswald and Bill (fiancé Jenn) Hurst; the grandfather of Jeffrey (Megan) Ryan, Mitchel Ryan, Sheyanne Ryan, Marisa Wernsing, Anthony Wernsing, Isabella Wernsing, Robert Jewell, Jeremy (Brittany) Jewell, Candace Jewell and Liam Hurst; the great-grandfather of Riley Ryan, Adeline Ryan, Mia Jewell, Adriana Jewell, Jeramyah Miller, Brando Podgorski and Zion Jewell; the brother of David Wernsing; and the uncle of Jennifer Wernsing.
Visitation is on Wednesday, May 23, from 3 p.m. until time of service, 8 p.m., at Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St. in Brookfield. Interment is private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
