Police in Riverside and North Riverside are adding traffic patrols through July 8 and part of a crackdown on drunk drivers and seatbelt scofflaws during the Fourth of July holiday season.
Special traffic enforcement patrols are being funded through federal grants administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket initiatives.
“We encourage local residents to celebrate Independence Day safely,” said North Riverside Deputy Police Chief Christian Ehrenberg in a press release. “If you’re going to drink, don’t drive.”
Police are asking motorists to:
- Give your designated driver your keys before you go out.
- Call a taxi or ride share, take mass transit or contact a sober friend or family member if you are impaired.
- Promptly report drunk drivers to law enforcement by pulling over and dialing 911.
