Born on July 9, 1941, he was a retired small business owner who enjoyed spending his time at Brookfield Zoo, reading World War II books, walking his dog, Pepper.

Mr. Bernard volunteered at the Boys’ Club of Cicero, where he was a charter member in 1950 and was honored as Boy of the Year for 1959-60. He remained active as a volunteer at the Boys’ Club, primarily as a basketball referee and game room supervisor, throughout his life.
