The Cook County State’s Attorney has approved felony DUI against a 28-year-old Broadview man who allegedly crashed his car into a Brookfield home on April 8, doing severe damage to the residence.
The offender had not been completely processed by the Landmark’s press time. He will be identified by name when that is complete. He has been released into police custody from the hospital after treatment of injuries he sustained when his black 2014 Cadillac CTS4 left the roadway and crashed through the wall of the house at 2801 Maple Ave. in Brookfield on April 8 at about 3:45 p.m.
Police say the driver likely was spared greater injury by the airbags inside his vehicle. Three people were inside the home at the time of the crash, but none was injured.
According to police, there appeared to be no attempt by the driver to apply the brakes before the Cadillac struck the house. A speed limit sign taken out by the car as it left the roadway was found inside the house.
“The house is what stopped the car,” said Deputy Police Chief Edward Petrak.
The vehicle was headed southbound on Maple Avenue, crossed over the northbound lanes of traffic and then jumped the curb at the corner before driving across the lawn and straight into the brick south wall of the house, between two windows.
The wall sustained significant damage, with bricks and cinderblocks collapsing onto the top of the car, the front half of which penetrated the home.
