The Riverside Police Department is once again participating this summer in “Operation Chill,” a partnership with 7-Eleven, where police officers hand out free Slurpee coupons to kids in order to reward kids for wearing helmets when riding bikes, for good deeds and just for having a positive interaction with police.

According to a press release, the coupons are a way for police to “encourage dialogue in non-threatening, non-law enforcement situations.”

“The Riverside Police department has been participating in Operation Chill for the last 10 years and I think our officers are almost as excited to give out the Slurpee coupons as the kids are to receive them,” said Lt. Frank Lara, in the press release.
